Rep. McNerney Announces 2022 Congressional App Challenge


Washington D.C.- Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-09) announced that his office is now accepting submissions for the 2022 Congressional App Challenge (CAC). In partnership with the Internet Education Foundation, members of Congress host these contests for students in their districts as part of a nationwide program created to teach students how to code, foster an appreciation for computing, and encourage students to learn valuable STEM-based skills. .

“The Congressional App Challenge is a unique opportunity for students to showcase their knowledge and creativity, while highlighting the importance of investing in STEM-based education,” said Congressman McNerney. “California 9e The Congressional District has no shortage of talent and I can’t wait to see this year’s submissions. »

The CAC is open to all students, regardless of coding experience, who meet the eligibility criteria and reside in the 9e Congressional District. Participating students will develop a software application in any programming language (example: C, C++, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, “block code”, etc.) for any platform (PC, web, tablet , robot, mobile, etc.). Students will then create and upload a three-minute video to YouTube, Vimeo or any other video hosting site explaining how the app works and what they learned from participating in the contest. Participants can compete individually or in teams of up to four students.

The winning applications will be selected by a jury and the winning application among the 9e The Congressional District will be featured on the website and the website. CAC winners may also be eligible to have their application featured on a screen in the Capitol building in Washington, DC.
