Telltale is releasing a groundbreaking fourth spin-off.

Last week Telltale Games released a game based on the hit Mr. Robot hack show. Now that the game is out ios and Android and it’s a revolutionary fourth mobile adventure created by developer Oxenfree Night School Studio.

Dubbed Mr. Robot: 1.51exfiltratiOn, this meta-spin-off sees gamers grab a phone that belongs to black hat hacker Darlene as she prepares to dismantle the world’s largest tech company, E-Corp ( towards the end of the first season).

The game takes a page of titles like Lifeline and The Martian: Bring Him Home, in which fictional characters correspond with you via in-game texts and you have to decide how to interact with them.

According to the developer, the game’s story unfolds over the course of a week as Darlene and her pirate friends communicate with you in real time to prepare for the Fight Club-esque revolution of militant group fsociety.

Mr. Robot: 1.51exfiltratiOn was written by Night School Founder and Creative Director Adam Hines, who previously wrote Oxenfree and co-wrote The Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead and Tales From the Borderlands while working at Telltale .

Since Mr. Robot: 1.51exfiltratiOn only launched earlier today, I’ve only played the early stages of this choose-your-own meta-adventure, but it’s an interesting start.

At first it’s a little hard to swallow the premise that your character would just find a finicky phone on a pier and instantly decide to reset it and claim it as their own, but go beyond that and it gets a lot more captivating as you go. Darlene is asking more and more special favors from you. For some reason, she refuses to meet in person and get her phone back. Why? This is part of the mystery.

An interesting mechanic in Night School’s latest is that it uses the Mass Effect / Telltale chat system where you choose from a selection of abbreviated dialogue options that result in longer exchanges. Only in Mr. Robot can you see these longer messages typed before you hit send, so you don’t have to worry about your character saying something that deviates from the intent. of the player.

Mr. Robot: 1.51exfiltratiOn costs £ 2.29 / $ 2.99 and has no micro-transactions.
