Booktopia boosts its operations by relying on robotic technology

Online bookstore company Booktopia is deploying Hai Robotics’ solution to improve operations and double customer orders.

Booktopia leverages Hai Robotics, an innovative autonomous robot technology to pack and ship orders faster to improve efficiency and double its product line.

Hai Robotics, a Shenzhen-based warehouse robotics startup that claims to have launched the world’s first self-contained double-depth case preparation and case handling system, announces its first deployment in Australia. Through integration and implementation by BPS Global, the Haipick robots were deployed to Booktopia’s 14,000 m² distribution center in Lidcombe, NSW.

Booktopia says that although the company has decided to implement to achieve efficiencies, it is now finding improvements across its operations.

A Haipick solution differs from a standard autonomous mobile robot solution. The robots use a telescopic fork that stretches four meters high. This gives robots the ability to transport cartons as well as individual bins and bring multiple crates to preparers or conveyors in one movement. This makes it easier to fill multiple sales orders at a single picking location, dramatically improving fulfillment and shipping rates for the leading retailer.

“By deploying this innovative robotic solution, we have doubled our capacity and significantly improved our picking and storage rates. It gives us the confidence we need to continue serving our customers, ”said Tony Nash, CEO of Booktopia, praising the innovation.

“COVID-19 has put tremendous pressure on e-commerce retailers, and we have seen volumes reach record levels across the retail landscape. We are delighted to be working with Booktopia on the very first deployment of this innovative automation solution in Australia. This investment ensures they are well positioned to meet growing demands and continue to serve the nation with their favorite books, ”notes Malcolm Druce, Managing Partner of BPS Global.

The Haipick solution, which now makes it faster and easier to increase capacity and storage, comes at an opportune time as the rising cost of renting warehouses becomes a major issue for many businesses in Australia.

“Through our partnership with BPS Global, the end customer has access to both local advice, implementation, service and support, as well as the latest robotic automation technologies,” concludes Michael. Rolfing, Sales Director of Hai Robotics Australia.
