Apple vs Telegram: the App Store finally approves its major update! Why did it take so long?

Apple finally approved Telegram’s “major” update to its App Store after getting stuck in the review process, causing it to be delayed.

The slowdown in Telegram’s update approval has angered the privacy-focused messaging app’s chief executive (CEO), Pavel Durov.

And in turn, no less than the big boss of Telegram had called out to Apple for delaying the release of its latest update.

Apple versus Telegram

According to a recent report by Mac Rumors, the CEO of Telegram wrote a message to boldly call out Apple for delaying the latest Telegram update as it seeks App Store approval.

Durov touts that the latest update would “revolutionize the way people express themselves in messaging.”

He also called the process of reviewing the official market for iPhone and iPad apps “obscure”.

The tech lead also revealed that the update has been stuck in the review process for over a week.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – SEPTEMBER 21: Telegram CEO & Co-Founder Pavel Durov speaks onstage during day one of TechCrunch Disrupt SF 2015 at Pier 70 on September 21, 2015 in San Francisco, California.

And on top of that, he claims the Cupertino-based tech giant has given no explanation or comment on why it appears to have been stuck in the review.

During the time Durov ranted about the delay of Telegram’s new app store update, it’s unclear why it took so long.

And it turns out that Apple had some issues with the new animated emoji that the privacy-focused messaging service is introducing to its users, Durov reveals.

The CEO revealed that the famous tech giant had complained about the seemingly harmless animated emojis in the messaging app.

Telemoji: What is it?

Telemoji allows users to send multiple animated emojis on the platform.

9to5 Mac notes that it appears to be emoji-based on iOS, but the messaging app has spiced it up with animations.

Durov says Apple asked Telegram to remove its new “Telemoji”, saying the tech giant had issues with the “higher quality animated vector version of the standard emoji”.

And as such, the newly approved update ditched the seemingly iOS-inspired animated emojis.

But the tech lead isn’t backing down, teasing that it pushes Telemoji to be more “unique and recognizable.”
