New Delhi: A team of four students from Marwadi University (MU) came second in the All India Hackathon organized by the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Allahabad, for developing an app called FirstTalk that bridges the communication gap between hard of hearing and hard of hearing people using Machine Learning (ML) and Android Studio technologies.

The team led by the Faculty of Computer Applications (FoCA) of Marwadi University consisted of Komal Bhagchandani and Disha Sanghavi from B.Sc. (IT), Neha Suva from MCA and Ananya S from M.Sc. (Cyber Security) under the mentorship of Dr. Raviraj Vaghela

More than 52 teams participated from various educational institutions and 22 teams qualified in the first round and only eight in the second round.

“First Talk was developed by our Faculty students in 3 days, solving real-world challenges using technologies that were unimaginable a few years ago. At MU, we encourage the integration of the latest technological developments into our modules of learning, so that our students keep up with the changing times,” says Dean of MU FoCA, Dr. Sridaran Rajagopal.

New era technologies such as Machine Learning and Android Studio not only provide immense learning and career opportunities for students, but also provide powerful solutions for a better quality of human life. Useful in industries such as telecommunications, medicine, BFSI (banking, financial services and insurance) and energy, ML allows a computer to learn on its own using artificial intelligence and models of mathematical data.
